The Thing I’m Doing This Year

Hiking faster in 2014 at the age of 51 than I did in 2006 will be harder to do than running a marathon or the century. I used to think nothing of getting up at 4:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning to go for a hike or hopping into an ice bath. Older, wiser Charlie is not prepared to do that again. Right now, this goal looks impossible. But we’ll see. Follow it all right here on this handy landing page. Continue reading

Rocky Mountain Snyder Family XMAS | 13

Eleven years ago, I went to my first Falfins Swim Team banquet and as I look back, I remember thinking, “God, how long is this going to take?” In May, my all-growed-up 18-year-old, Carli, gave her senior farewell speech. I had a conversation with Mike Bantom, a member of the basketball team, who were robbed of their gold medal. This is one of my favorite Olympic interviews. Continue reading

My Review of Catch-22, an all-time classic

On some Top 100 lists for the greatest fiction ever written, Catch-22 is ranked top 10 and even top five, so why didn’t I like it? And what is the connection between Catch-22 and M.A.S.H.? I get to the bottom of it with my review. Continue reading
