My Review | The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

I read the first 200 pages on my iPad on a flight from Colorado Springs to Los Angeles, like a hot knife through butter. I liked the characters, the setting and the story. And I liked the writing. It was simply and clearly written. “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry” was a breath of fresh air. The story focuses on reading, writing, books and stories, and the world of storytelling. My Favorite Books … 2015

Here are my favorite books from 2015. Some new, some old, some fiction and non-fiction. I even read a few books written by authors who reside in countries other than America to keep those comparative lit snobs off my back. I read three collections of short stories by Melissa Bank (The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing), Annie Proulx (Close Range) and Miranda July (No one belongs here more than you), which included some of the best writing I encountered all year. My Favorite Videos … 2015

Here are my top 10 videos that I noticed and posted on Facebook in 2015. Three are about movies, two feature drones, music, and human acheivement and there is one about genocide, the moon, bunnies and a TED talk about a kindergarten in Tokyo. If you were just going to watch one, I’d watch the TED talk or the Karate Kid video or the Ninja Warrior or the mountain biker from Red Bull (that one is insane). They are all excellent. Trying to fold a bowling ball

I went for a bike ride the other day on east of town on the Woodmen Expressway. There are gradual hills, but it’s mostly a straightaway service road, so you can put your hands in the drops and crank, which is super awesome if you can put your hands in the drops. I can, but it’s a bit of an effort. Like Louis C.K. says, bending over like that is like trying to fold a bowling ball. But I’m not hear to talk about my gut.
