The Thing I’m Doing This Year #6
So I go to work and my stabbing foot pain is mostly gone, but now I feel a knot on my spine. No one wants to feel a knot on his or her spine. Lower back, five discs up on the left. That’s a problem.
So I don’t work out on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Wouldn’t be prudent, not at this juncture.
On Thursday I head to the Y and try the stair machine for the first time in a couple weeks.
March 24 160 floors 56 steps/min.
April 2 176 floors 61 steps/min.
April 4 187 floors 66 steps/min.
April 7 205 floors 71 steps/min.
April 10 195 floors 68 steps/min.
April 25 220 floors 76 steps/min.
I guess I was tapered, because I did great covering 220 floors in 46 minutes. In fact, I went so hard that I nearly barfed up the Fritos I ate … in the car … on the way … to the Y.
I need to get my food act together.
On Saturday, I get a late start to the trailhead and it’s ‘Bring a Friend to Barr Trail Day’ … too many people. Got to start earlier. No stopwatch, lots of yayhoos coming down the trail, put a crimp in the speed potential, so I was very happy to get to the top of the W’s in 37:59.
One thing I know, but need to get better at is this … you don’t need to break a record on every effort. Some workouts are just workouts.
I went out two more intervals (14 minutes) for a total of 52 minutes of up, then got down in 33 minutes. That was probably my best overall effort so far.
On the way down I listened to Sammy Hagar sing “Eagles Fly” and I thought, “This song captures how I feel when I run down the mountain.”
It’s a good feeling.
The next installment … ‘Sugarlump’
Here’s an acoustic version of the song.
I’m doing the Tour de Cure this fall.
