Fishin’ Worms
I’m at the Petco with Gina and Carli in line to get the dogs some shots. This woman explains that the heartworm test checks for hookworms, roundworms and tapeworms. Naturally, I have to ask, “Does it also look for them fishin’ worms?” Continue reading →
Did I Pack Underwear?
Carli’s home. With Carli, Gina and Rose all needing a car to get to workouts or work, there was a brief discussion about buying another car. The discussion went something like this, “Hey Dad, we all think it would be a good idea to buy another car.” Then I said, “We don’t have any money.” End of discussion. Continue reading →

Humans of Volleyball
I guess it’s hard to get a practice together. Herb: “No practice. Can’t do it.” Phil: “We’re lucky if we can play together, let alone practice.” Bill: “We play the younger kids at home.” Norm: “I think it shows that we don’t practice.” So you don’t practice, but how did you do at this tournament last year? “We won. Didn’t lose a match. Didn’t lose a game.” Continue reading →

Get Your Mind Right
Once again I’m amazed at the mind-over-matter-ness of how your mind can get your body to do stuff. Once I thought I was going to fall short, I stood up straight, turned up the levels and started to crank. I was struggling, but I was revived. I ended up doing 232 floors. Continue reading →

Another Round of Bloodletting
Then he tells me I’ve got an issue with my iron. No big deal. Last year I was told I had an iron overload or hemochromatosis. That doctor explained to me that the treatment was simple and foolproof. I just needed to get a lobotomy. She asked, “Does that all make sense?” “Ahhhh … no. That does not make sense.” Continue reading →

Cobra Kai Attack
On the way down, a dude in jeans sped past me, utters no words, makes no effort to share the trail, just blazes down the trail. A couple seconds later, an 80-pound dog, moving just as fast as his owner, clips my knee, nearly takes me out. Continue reading →
